The baseline is your bird, not a diagnosis list
Matching symptoms to diseases online mostly costs time. The question is not which illness it is, but whether today differs from yesterday.
Recording appetite, weight, droppings, breathing, and activity the same way lets you describe the difference — which also helps at the clinic.
Same place, every day
Check at a set time in the same order. It does not take long; you are only looking for what changed.
- Did food and water intake drop
- Are droppings the usual amount and form
- Is breathing audible, or is the tail bobbing
- Is the bird fluffed up and dozing for long stretches
- Is it spending more time on the cage floor
Weight, the signal that leaves a number
Changes you cannot see appear in weight first. moimoi records weight per bird alongside a species reference range so you can see the move from the usual value.
Fix the time and conditions. A weight taken right after a meal is not the same as a morning weight.
Situations that should not wait
Difficulty breathing, bleeding, an odd gait after a fall or collision, seizures, swallowing something harmful, or an egg that appears stuck: contact a clinic that treats birds without waiting.
moimoi's emergency guide has short first-aid notes for these situations. The notes are for the trip to the vet; judgement and treatment belong to the vet.
