Decide these before arrival
Where the cage sits matters as much as the cage itself. Consider foot traffic, windows, kitchen fumes, and direct airflow.
- A location away from direct sun and air-conditioner airflow
- Distance from cooking smoke and odors
- Perches of varied diameter
- Food and water bowls plus a spare set
- A carrier for clinic visits
Use records to build a baseline
During the first week, record food, water, sleep, activity, and preferences instead of guessing what is normal. After several days, you can compare future changes with a real baseline.
Know an avian clinic in advance
Confirm one or two clinics that treat birds before an urgent need arises. Contact them when behavior differs from the new baseline.
