Do not make a sick day the first time the carrier appears. Leave it open near the living area and divide practice into small steps.

Make the carrier an ordinary object

Secure the door open and reward looking at or approaching the entrance. Never push the bird inside.

  • Secure the open door
  • Reward near the entrance
  • Do not close it on the first voluntary entry

Practice closing and moving separately

Start with one second of a closed door, then lifting, a few steps indoors, and only then a short drive. Return to the previous calm step after panic.

Prepare clinic travel items

Use a non-slip base, low stable perch, light cover, and recent records. Secure the carrier away from sun and direct air-conditioning.

Do not delay emergencies for training

For breathing difficulty, ongoing bleeding, seizures, or suspected poisoning, call the clinic and follow transport instructions immediately.

Frequently asked questions

Can the carrier have a high perch?

A low stable perch reduces falls. A weak bird may need no perch under clinic guidance.

Can I open it in the car?

No. Escape and injury risk are high.

Should I cover it completely?

A partial cover can reduce visual stimulation, but it must not block ventilation.
